Board of the Federal Capital Territory
Football Association (FCT FA) has thrown its weight for the ambition of
the Chairperson of the Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) Chief Mrs.
Dilichukwu Onyedinma to re-contest for the position in the forth-coming
elections into the Boards of the various League bodies in the country.
According to the Chairman of the
Association, Musa Saeed Talle, the Board arrived at this decision after
properly reviewing the achievements of the Chairperson in last four
years “the Board of the FCT FA during its meeting held at the weekend,
took a critical look at the performance of the Nigeria Women Football
League vis-à-vis the Chairperson of the Board in last four years.
“We came to the resolution that she had
performed excellently well, considering the achievements recorded by the
various national women teams within the period under review. Not
minding the harsh environment she found herself in the last dispensation
in the Football Federation.
It takes the doggedness of people with
great passion and determination to achieve the feat the Board recorded.
We have no option than to endorse her for the second term in the office.
We are very convinced that with the good working relationship she has
with the present leadership of the Federation, that Nigeria Women
Football would no doubt maintain its leadership position in Africa and
compete favourably with others in Europe, America and Asia” he said.
Talle did not hesitate in taking a swipe
at those who are rubbishing the recently concluded Women Super Six
Football competition held in Umuahia, Abia State, saying that such
people are enemies of the game in the country “it is laughable when you
hear the calibre of people making such comments.
“These are people whose antecedents are
well known when they were handling teams here in FCT and we know very
well how such acts led to their dismissal from handling the national
teams, such people have no moral right to be agitating for teams.
Moreover, making such a statement at a time when the other leagues are
striving to get sponsors for their own tournaments, showing that they
don’t have the interest of the game at heart. They are only interested
in achieving their own parochial and selfish aims to the detriment of
the game in the country”.
Concluding, he said “election is an open
event, where any qualified individual is free to participate; people
should desist from casting aspersions on the achievements of others to
achieve their aims. We at the FCT FA have resolved that we would not
fold our arms and watch people drag the achievements of our sole
representative in the Board of NFF to the dust, especially when such was
achieved with sole efforts” he concluded.
It would be recalled that the FCT
Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) last week
passed a vote of confidence on the Board of the Nigeria Women Football
League led by Mrs. Onyedinma, asking the League congressmen and women to
return her back to office.
