The ad hoc committees saddled with responsibilities of fashioning out a
workable insurance policy and to review the laws of the
Nigerian Referees Association,( NRA), have been put in place and asked to
commence work immediately.
President of the body in Nigeria , Tade
Azeez while inaugurating the committees in Abuja, asked them to churn
out excellent ideas and workable policies for the good of Nigerian
referees and the association.
It would be recalled
that at the Full Executive Meeting of the NRA late last year in Zaria,
Kaduna state, hammered on the need to review the statute which has been operational
since twelve years ago was agreed as well as having a befitting
insurance policy, which prompted the set up of the committees.
Tade said that the step is part of reforms to revamp the
NRA and make it responsive to the realities of the day.
According to him,
while the review of the Statutes will enhance clear cut explanation on
certain knotty issues affecting the law and Constitution guiding the
association, the insurance policy touches areas of welfare that is also
paramount to the life of every member.
He charged the
chairmen and members of the committees to discharge their duties without
fear or favour, adding that the outcome of their presentations will
impact on the future activities of Nigerian Referees.

The President further
added that due to some sad incidents related to death of both active
and non active referees in the past one year, an ad hoc committee on
health will be constituted to fashion out a blue print geared towards
tackling health challenges even as matters related to health data
records and personal medical checkup were also emphasised.
NRA 2nd Vice President , Chief Eke Onyeforo and retired FIFA
referee, Comrade Titus Adegbeingbe, Chairmen of ad hoc committee on
Insurance Policy and Review of Statute respectively, pledged to do their
works assiduously and come out with world class items that will be
acceptable to all.
Members of the
committee on Statutes Review include: Chairmen of Anambra and Sokoto
states Referees' Councils, Sir ANC Udennaka and Alhaji Bello Abubakar
respectively, the NRA National Legal Adviser, Barr Oboho, serves as
Secretary.
For Insurance Policy, Faith Irabor, Edo Council Chairman and
that of Kogi, Adams including the National Publicity Secretary, Kelechi
Mejuobi, are members. The Deputy Secretary General of NRA, Dr Suleiman
Omezia is the Secretary.
