Nigeria's
powerlifter, Tolulope Taiwo, missed out on a chance at podium after finishing fifth
in the men's -80kg Group A, at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
Taiwo lifted
200kg which unfortunately was not enough to earn him a medal.
The gold
medal went to Majid Farzin from Iran who did 240 kg.
China's
Xiaofei Gu claimed the silver medal after lifting 228kg, while Akhror Bozorov
from Uzbekistan took the bronze medal with a lift of 207 kg.
However,Bose
Omolayo grabbed Nigeria’s 6th gold in the powerlifting event at the
Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Contesting In the women's -79kg, Omolayo
lifted 138 kg to finish top of her weight category.
The silver
medal went to Lili Xu of China who lifted 135 kg, while Chinese Taipei's Tzu-Hui Liu claimed the
bronze medal with a lift of 131 kg.
Ndidi Nwosu had
earlier won gold in the women's powerlifting category for Nigeria
She beat off
competition from France's Souhad Ghazouani and Egypt's Amany Ali.
At the
moment,Team Nigeria remains ninth in the overall medals table with six gold,
two silver and one bronze .
