Civil Defence Corps finished tops at the just concluded 3rd Chika
Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF) International Taekwondo Open Championships
in Abuja ,with four gold medals,one Silver,and four bronze.
The event held at the prestigeous Sheraton Towers Abuja,equally saw Niger Republic clinching the second position with two gold,one Silver,and one Bronze, while Mali placed third with two gold,and two Bronze.
Eight
countries, sixteen States in Nigeria, and 60 teams participated in the
Championships.A total of 284 athletes, 210 males and 74 females featured in
various categories of events.
2008 bronze medallist at the Beijin Olympics and Competition
founder,Chika Chujwumerije told amarignis.blogspot.com that he is delighted with the discovery
of fresh talents during the 5-Day Championship .
"It has been huge and awesome ,i can't believe we made such a progress,with the turn out and competitive strength of the athletes,i am so excited with the number of young talents that showed hunger for success"
The
African Taekwondo Union (AFTU) represented by its Vice President Dr.Jonathan
Nnaji said plans are in place to upgrade the Chika Chukwumerije Sports
Foundation International Tournament to a World class Championship in no distant
time,and would also serve as a qualifying ground for international tournaments in the future.
