Nigeria To Flick off League One Hockey

The Nigeria Hockey Federation is set for the second tier League tournament, dubbed the National League 1,expected to flick off  in Portharcourt, Rivers state from 13th to 17th July 2016.
Seven states namely, Kano, Katsina, Nassarawa, Ogun, Abia, Delta and Rivers states will feature in  men's event ,and two teams will participate in  women's event  .
The tournament is powered by the  Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The tournament will be immediately followed by the Super league to be held at the National Hockey Stadium, in Abuja from 23rd to the 30th of July,2016.

Eight men's and six women's teams will take part in the Super League with the winners representing Nigeria at the next Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) In Zimbabwe later in the year.

The Leagues will provide the Nigeria Hockey Federation the opportunity to select the teams that will represent the country in the forthcoming World Hockey League Round 1 in Accra, Ghana in September.

The Olympic Solidarity Movement recently approved the sum of USD29,500 for the Nigeria Hockey Federation to develop it's national structure.  

The International Hockey Federation is providing a technical assistance with a coach to arrive shortly from Pakistan through the grant, development equipment worth USD 5500 will be purchased. 

An elated President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, Senator Abdul Ningi  said the development is  a huge progress for Hockey in the country.
