FA Boss in Nigeria's capital the FCT right presenting a trophy |
The chairman of the Football Association in Nigeria's capital Abuja,Musa Saeed Talle today inaugurated the 2015 Principal Cup football competition committee at its secretariat
The
competition is expected to be played in the first term of the 2014/2015
academic session and will involve all the secondary schools in FCT both public and
private schools. This first edition would be for the boys alone, but subsequent
editions would include the girls.
According to Talle the competition is aimed at discovering more hidden talents from the grassroots
that will represent FCT in various national competitions.
"We all know that in
the past, the glamour of the Principal cup can never be over emphasized as many
players that represented this country in international competitions were
selected from such tournaments. Today, we have dearth of young players because the
competition has been abandoned and our young players no longer have the
opportunity of exhibiting their skills in such tournaments". " what we
have now is a situation where our teams attend international tournaments with
players that are not well skilled in the game of football. This was very evident in the on- going FIFA
tournaments where Nigeria could not excel despite the enabling environment
given to them by the NFF".
Talle stated that the lost glory of the country in the game of football would
soon return with emphases on grassroots programme
