Rio 2016:Nigeria's Coco Advance to Quarter Final In Rowing

American - born Nigerian professional rower,Chierika”Coco” Ukogu made it to the next round-quarter final  after a  3rd effort finish in hit 5 of the women's sculls.





 Competiting in heat 5, the 23 year old  rower finished third with a time of 8:35:34 behind Austria's Lobnig Magdalena who came first with a time of 8:26:38 and Czech's Topinkova Miroslava in second with a time of 8:29:90.

Ukogu is  currently ranked 15th after the heats.
 
Chierika Ukogu, is the first Nigerian in history to row on Olympic waters. Coco  Stanford graduate  is soon-to-be medical student.


Ukogu’s rowing career dates back to 2006 while attending Mount Saint Joseph Academy, a powerhouse of a rowing school on the outskirts of America’s crew capital, Philadelphia. 

She graduated in 2010. The next stop for the Pennsylvania native was Palo Alto, where Ukogu studied pre-medical and rowed for Stanford’s women’s crew team.
