Nigeria , Tunisia Tango In FIBA AFRICA Round of Eight Showdown



The Nigeria Women's U-16 side at the ongoing FIBA Africa Under sixteen Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar will battle their Tunisian counterparts in the Quarter finals on Friday.

The Tigress  Cubs who were the first team to secure their passage into the knockout stage by topping their group with 3 straight wins will be refreshed before going against Tunisian who managed just one win their four  group matches.

Coach Adeka Daudu will be hoping that leading scorers Onome Akinbode-James, Chinelo Ibeh, alongside point guard and Captain Ruth Omotayo Udueyin carry over their excellent form from the preliminaries into the crucial stages of the competition.

In the other Quarter Final games billed for Friday, Triple defending champions and leaders in Group B, Mali will play 4th in Group A Morocco while Egypt face off with Mozambique and host Madagascar battle Angola  in the battle of 2nd and 3rd in both groups for a place in the last 4 on Saturday.
Meanwhile,in the elite Basketball League in  Nigeria,the  Lagos Islanders who were top dogs of the Atlantic conference during the regular season continued their dominance in the Playoffs, as they raced to a perfect 3 wins from 3 at the in the ongoing Conference 6 Playoffs holding at the Indoor sports hall of the National Stadium in Lagos. The Islanders pipped Lagos rivals Union Bank 70-53 on Wednesday in their 3rd game of the series having defeated Dodan Warriors 53-51 courtesy an Hillary Aigbokhaionde last gap 3 pointer and  a 60-54  victory against Customs.

Similarly, 2nd placed Dodan Warriors showed the spark that kept them as fans favorites during the regular season as they recovered from Tuesday's loss to the Islanders in their win over struggling Kwara Falcons who are seeking for their 1st win in the playoffs courtesy a 68-62 points, having already defeated Oluyole Warriors 75-51 in their opening fixture. Rejuvenated Union Bank who share the same wins and losses with their Lagos rivals, Dodan Warriors won their first 2 games before falling to the Islanders on wednesday 53- 70.

The Nigerian Customs side also got a big boost to make the Top 4 as they came from behind to run home winners over Oluyole Warriors 58-61 to earn their first win of the playoffs.The Ibadan Boys have managed just one win so far in the playoffs while Kwara Falcons will hope to save what is left of their Final 8 aspirations as tangle with Customs in a must win encounter on Friday, having lost all their 3 games so far at the Atlantic Conference, Conference 6 Playoffs, after Thursday, which is reserved as a rest day.
