Nigeria has added to her medal haul in the Weightlifting events at the on-going 11th
edition of the All African Games when Elizabeth Onuah bagged one (1) gold medal
in the 53kg snatch,deputy director media,Stephen Nelson has noted.
Onuah also had a Bronze in the clean and jerk category. Uweh Monica won two (2) silver medals, one (1) in snatch and 1 (one) in clean and jerk in the 48kg category. Razak Tanimowo also won two (2) silver medals in the men’s category, 1 (one) in snatch and 1 (one) in clean and jerk in the 56kg category.

Karate event
produced two (2) Bronze medals, one (1) in Team Kumite and one (1) in Team Kata
in the women category. In the Kumite
Individual event, Hope Adele (+84kg women), Asone Rita (+68kg women), Onu
Joseph (-84kg men) and Sulean Samuel (-75kg men) lost in the 2nd
round, while Afesumen Sandra (-68kg women) and Omotayo Olayinka (+68kg women)
lost in the first round.
Nigeria
has also qualified to play in the semi-finals event of the Men’s Singles, Women’s
Single, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Badminton event. The
group first played in the round of 16 yesterday and emerged victorious, hence, their
elevation to the quarter-finals stage where they also picked the semi-finals
ticket.
In the
preliminary events of Boxing, Oluwafemi Oyeleye was victorious against
Mozambique’s Agusto Mathulde in the Welterweight (69kg), while Muyideen Oaykojo
lost to Congo Brazzaville Moussiesse Francel in the Light Flyweight (49kg)
category. The referee stopped the
contest between Waheed Shogbamu and Tsedo Lepodo of Lesotho in the Light Welterweight
(64kg) due to Waheeds head injury and the fight was awarded to Tsedo Lepodo.
Kehinde Ademuyiwa lost to Algeria’s Abbadi Lyes in the Middle Weight (75kg)
category.
Nigeria lost in the Volleyball women event, in her third match, (preliminary) against
Kenya.
While in swimming, Samuel Opuako competing in the 100 metres freestyle
and 50 metres butterfly heat did not qualify as he finished in the 14th
and 13th positions respectively.
Racheal Tonjor also did not qualify in the 50 metres women breaststroke
heat event as she finished 9th.
