Coach Haruna Ilerika in the midst of Super Falcon Players |
Acting Secretary of the Football Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),Haruna Ilerika wants a probe into the failure of the Super Falcons at the just concluded 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo.
Ilerika, though disappointed that the Falcons could not win a medal at the games, said he believed in the ability of coach Christopher Danjuma and his technical crew to lead the Falcons.
Hear him: "It is unfortunate and disappointing that we dropped after two wins, imaging Cote D' Voire beating us twice, and Cameroon too,i could not believe it ,i think something is wrong some where.I followed the team's preparation as a soccer coach and had great confidence in the (Falcons) before they departed"
"I know the coaches ,Christopher Danjuma and his assistants are among the very best in the country, they were part of the team even under former head coach Edwin Okon and i can tell you ,i know their contributions to the success of the team before now, this is so surprising and i suggest the Nigeria Football Federation should ask questions why the team had such a poor showing as champions of Africa, there may be things that happened that we areyet to know"
The Super Falcons won only two games and lost three, they were beaten by Cote d Ivoire twice,1-2 in all the meetings , first it was in the group stage and then in the third place match with . They also lost 1-2 to Cameroon in the semi-final. These were teams that the Super Falcons beat comprehensively at the 2014 AWC in Namibia..
Ilerika ,who is the technical director of FC Abuja, was also quick to add that the latest defeats by the Super Falcons is a sign that Nigeria must buckle up as other countries on the continent have stepped up in Women's Football.
